Physiotherapy

European Physiotherapy Benchmark Statement says that "physiotherapy is to provide services to individuals and populations to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and functional ability throughout the patient’s lifespan. Physiotherapy includes the provision of services in circumstances where motor activities and functions are threatened by the process of ageing or have been impaired as a result of injury or disease. Full and functional motor activity is a measure of health *.

Scope of Practice

Physiotherapy deals with identification and restoration of the fullest potential of motor function in the areas of health promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. Physiotherapy involves the interaction between physical therapist, patients or clients, families and carers, in the process of assessing the potential of motor function and in establishing agreed upon goals and objectives using knowledge and skills unique to physiotherapists*.

"Physiotherapists’ distinctive perception of the body and its needs as well as the potential of mobility-related activities is a starting point for a diagnosis and intervention strategies in practice. These conditions can vary depending on whether physiotherapy concerns the promotion of health, prevention, treatment or rehabilitation".*
